One of my favorite things to do is make dinner for my family. I love cooking and we make a point to sit at the table together every weeknight and catch each other up on our days. We’re lucky that our schedules allow it and I never take it for granted- but that doesn’t mean I have hours to prep dinner.
Ribs are always a huge hit around here, but if you’ve ever made them you know they can take forever to cook. But when you combine an Instant Pot {or any pressure cooker} and a broiler, you can have succulent, juicy ribs in under an hour- for real!
This recipe is so simple and you probably have almost all of the ingredients in your pantry. Just grab a rack of ribs next time you’re at the store and give this recipe a try!

What’s the difference between Baby Back Ribs and Spare Ribs?
Baby back ribs are a more tender cut, which is perfect for this recipe. To get a truly succulent rib you’ll want to cook meat that is more tender to begin with!
That said, baby back ribs are a smidge more expensive so if you’re watching your grocery budget, you can totally make this recipe with short ribs and follow all of the same directions.
Alternatively, you can use these tips to save money elsewhere on your grocery trip and splurge a little on the ribs!
Does this Baby Back Rib recipe require the Instant Pot and grill?
Nope- this one uses the Instant Pot and oven! The Instant Pot will get your ribs just about done- and the broil setting in your oven will finish the job and caramelize the BBQ sauce in just a few minutes.
Using the oven instead of the grill helps make this recipe faster, and also makes this a recipe that you can enjoy year-round, no matter the weather!

Instant Pot Baby Back Ribs
Love ribs but hate how long they take to cook? This easy pork baby back ribs recipe starts in the instant pot and ends in the oven for a simple and quick meat dinner! This recipe includes tips and how to make the dry rub and is the best way to cook ribs on a weeknight!
Ingredients
- 3.5 pounds of baby back ribs
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 cup favorite BBQ sauce
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar optionally in addition to the 1/2 cup of water
Instructions
- Combine all spices in a small bowl to make the dry rub and coat ribs evenly with rub
- Add water and optional apple cider vinegar into the bottom of the Instant Pot. Place trivet.
- Add baby back ribs to Instant Pot, curting it or slicing in half if needed to fit.
- Place lid on Instant Pot and ensure the knob is set to sealed. Select "manual" and set temperature to "high". Change time to 18 minutes.
- When 18 minutes is up, allow the Instant Pot to do a "natural pressure release" for 10 minutes, then manually release remaining pressure.
- Turn oven on to broil and line a baking sheet with foil
- Transfer ribs to baking sheet and coat with your favorite bbq sauce.
- Broil ribs for 6-7 minutes, until sauce begins to caramelize.
- Remove ribs from oven and add a little more bbq sauce if you'd like.
Notes
Please note that cooking time is an estimate as it will depend on how long it takes your Instant Pot to get to pressure, but it should not vary much from estimate.
